One Rust binary that ate pip, venv, pyenv, and Poetry for greenfield Python. Then OpenAI bought the company.
Why uv (Python toolchain) stuck
uv stuck because Python packaging was a fifteen-year humiliation and a fast lockfile-plus-interpreter tool was the obvious fix. It failed to delete pip from the universe — legacy and downstream still speak requirements.txt — but it won new projects and CI. OpenAI acquiring Astral (Ruff, uv, ty) is the Bun rhyme: the agent vendor now owns the toolchain. The durable win is boring installs; the invoice is platform risk if Codex gravity starts steering the roadmap.
