Astro
Islands of JavaScript on a page of HTML. The content-site framework that outlived the Jamstack keynote — then the team joined Cloudflare.
Why Astro stuck
Astro stuck because a lot of "apps" were documents wearing a SPA runtime. Islands let a site hydrate what moves and leave the rest as HTML. On 16 January 2026 Cloudflare announced that The Astro Technology Company team was joining, with the framework staying MIT-licensed and aimed at more than one host. That is platform risk on a calendar, not a eulogy and not proof of lock-in. It did not win the web. Next still owns app-shaped React. Astro owns the brochure that should have stayed a brochure.
